“Leader is Not a title that the world gives to you…….It’s an offering that you give to the world”
– Abby Wambach (Wolf Pack)
“ I will allot good work to my best team members as they will complete it on time and with desired output.”- A corporate leader“
For our annual day, the top scorers will compile the event, as they are the best.” A class teacher
“In my tuition class, the batch that contains all the scholars have to be given more importance, as they will end up as top scorers and give us publicity.” – A tuition class teacher
“In my stage show, I will keep my best performer in the centre stage, as it will show my best work and get me praises.” – An art guru
Said and agreed, everyone would definitely market and publicize their “Best” , but in this process, the compassion and the thought which marks a true Leader/Guru, is missing. Leaders or Gurus these days are more interested to bang upon their best people/student instead of encouraging or uplifting others to move up in the ladder. Definitely bang upon your best and market it accordingly to get more inwards. But at the same time, practice mindfulness for others associated with you who may not be equally best. An employee who is already good at his/her work and is accomplishing the work you gave OR a student who is already intelligent and grabs the top position ; just take a pause and think “what role have you played in their achievements as a leader or guru?” Such performers will perform anywhere they go. True leader should have patience, should be humble and compassionate to work with each and every person/student associated with them.
Let me tell you, this digital generation understands “What is there in it for me”. Most of the research says that 1 person out of every 10 has some inherent talent. If as a Leader/Guru you are focusing on only the best performer, it means you are able to influence or touch only 1% of the people/students associated with us. Rest 99% are missing out on your influence. And the agony is that these 1% will outshine or outperform even without you. Today or tomorrow when they move away from you, they will still be able to perform with similar potential and most likely they won’t remember you. But on the other hand, if you are a true leader or guru who is working with same passion with everyone associated, the rest of 99% will definitely remember you for rest of their life as you would have paced yourself with them for their growth.
It is important that Leaders/Gurus should not manipulate their leadership for self-glorification or personal achievements. They have to be good communicators that enable and encourage the growth for each one around them.
